Our darker moments are learning opportunities!

Our darker moments are learning opportunities!

As a challenge assignment for personal growth, I am journaling significant events in my life, and finding many that have taught me much. Surprising to me, I particularly appreciate the darker moments in my life, times when things have not gone well, when I have not behaved well, or when others have not behaved well toward me.  In the past, those times were never welcome, but rather times to be avoided, or at least minimized by “pushing forward”, “doing things that mattered”, “going along to get along”, and focusing only on possibility and optimism.

But now, I am beginning to realize that those darker moments have taught me things about myself that I could not have learned any other way!  When we face our imperfections, we are blessed with opportunities to grow and mature. The lessons have been many:  humility, forgiveness, resilience, self-respect, and the power of deciding to live my own life, rather than conform to the expectations of others, just to name a few, lessons that can only be learned through trial, error, poor decisions, and facing the realities of imperfect relationships.

So savor your “darker moments”, and see what there is to learn.  Would love your comments!
